Senior Civic Engagement Strategist
Greg Lawson is the Senior Civic Engagement Strategist on the Sustainable Cities team, which invests in local solutions to address climate change and promote racial wealth equity. He focuses on building strong relationships between cities and communities to co-create and implement sustainable development solutions. With more than 15 years of experience in the nonprofit and government sectors, Greg has been instrumental in promoting equitable community and economic development strategies and has a proven track record of building partnerships and coalitions to achieve shared goals.
As the former Senior Vice President for Strategic Neighborhood Development at the New Orleans Business Alliance, he crafted and executed an equitable place-based strategy that resulted in attracting over $50 million in direct investment into underserved neighborhoods. His efforts in government were equally impressive, where he led the creation and implementation of several place-based initiatives, including the public participation policy, which ensured that all residents had a say in the decisions that affected their lives. Additionally, he oversaw the Resilience District, a $141 million federally funded initiative, aimed at promoting equitable development and workforce opportunities for communities of color in New Orleans, while also reducing flood risk, slowing land subsidence, and improving energy reliability.
Greg earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Xavier University of Louisiana and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Phoenix. In his free time, he enjoys practicing hot yoga, hiking, enjoying live music, and reading a good book.
